Northeast Region Summer Sea Scouting Training Weekend

The Chesapeake Flotilla is holding a Sea Scout Training Weekend from 1700 on Friday, __ to __ August, 2003 at Deep Creek State Park in western Maryland.

We would like to invite any Sea Scout Ship to join us for a weekend of hands on learning and fellowship. The cost is $20.00 per person. (Each Ship is responsible for bringing their own food).

We would like to offer the classes listed below if there is sufficient interest. Yes, we are counting on many of you to help teach these classes so, please let us know what classes your adults can help with.

Safety AfloatThis adult water safety class will be offered
SwimmingThis class will cover the swimming merit badge requirements for Ordinary Rank
Small Boat HandlerSucessful completion of this course will qualify the Sea Scout for the small boat Handler award outlined in the Sea Scouting Manual.
RowingThis class will cover requirements for the Rowing Merit badge required as part of BSA lifeguard requirement (Quartermaster requirement #11).
Sailing 1This class will cover the sailing requirements in Ordinary rank requirements 16 and 18E
Sailing 2This class will cover the sailing requirements in Able rank requirement 17A
US SAILING Small Sailboat CertificationThis class is an entire weekend class and will provide Sea Scouts with the opportunity to become certified as a Small Boat Sailor.
Boat 1This class will cover the boats requirement in Able rank #6. Students should bring with them a copy of their Ship's customized equipment list for it's vessel.
Boat 2This class will cover the boats requirement in Quartermaster requirement #6. Students should already be familiar with the Motorboating Merit Badge requirements.
Small Outboard EnginesThis class will cover the Boat Maintenance requirements in Able requirement #17
Boat Maintenance This class will cover the Boat Maintenance requirement in Able Elective #.
Pulling BoatThis class will cover the boats requirement in Able Rank 18B.
CanoeingThis class will cover the canoeing Merit Badge requirements as part of the BSA lifeguard requirement. (Quartermaster requirement #11).
